Kinêm(a)nima 2021
Kinêm(a)nima is an acrylic painting on canvas. The title combines the Greek word "kinêma", ("movement"), and the Latin word "anima" ("breath", "soul" - "âme" in French) from which the word "animal" is derived. This title refers to one of my series of musical works, Kinêm(a) (Kinê-Diffr(a)ct and Kinêm(a)bstract) for amplified instruments, composed between 2008 and 2012.
The bipolarity of colours (black and white) brings into sharper focus a work centred on movement, on the rapidity of the gestural kineme that combines hatched and undulatory lines. A form seems simultaneously to emerge and to dislocate, even to be torn to shreds, under the pressure of an urgent and violent expulsion of matter.
The term "anima" dos not appear in the title of the musical series. Its inclusion to the title of the painting suggests both the idea of an animal force and psychic motion. But whilst the outline of an animal may be discernible, the latter would be then blown away by the deflagration of what atomises it.
White Gesso; pouring medium; acrylic paints (black, white); various palette knives and a toothbrush; cotton canvas (100x50 cm).
