Kinêm(a)nima 2021

Kinêm(a)nima is an acrylic painting on canvas. The title is derived from the Greek word "kinêma", which means "movement", and the Latin word "anima", which means "breath" ("souffle" in French), "soul", and which gave the word "animal". This title refers to one of my series of musical works, Kinêm(a) (Kinê-Diffr(a)ct and Kinêm(a)bstract) for amplified instruments, composed between 2008 and 2012.

The bipolarity of colours (black and white) reveals with more acuteness a work on movement, on the rapidity of the gestural kineme that combines hatched and undulatory lines. A form seems both to emerge and to dislocate, or to be torn to shreds, under the push of an urgent and a violent expulsion of matter.

The term "anima" is not mentioned in the title of the musical series. Its addition in the title of the painting suggests both the idea of animal force and psychic motion. But if the outline of an animal is eventually perceptible, the latter would be then blown away ("soufflé" in French) by the deflagration of what atomizes it.

White Gesso; pouring medium; acrylic paintings (black, white); various palette knives and toothbrush; cotton canvas (100x50cm).
