Studies for Lostery2014

Studies for Lostery is a series of 13 drawings intended to be scanned and assembled to form a digital drawing projected onto a screen (a huge abstract machinery). The title condenses two words "Lottery" and "lost". It expresses a rather pessimistic mindset according to which what has been brought into play most often leads to failure.

The projection of the assembling of drawings lies at the background of the audiovisual installation Lostery 2. The dense interlocking of the graphic motives evokes the complex gearwheels of a world beyond control and gives the impression that individuals are trapped in an obscure mechanism that completely randomly deals the cards. Its black-and-white graphic design reminds us that the game is binary in nature. We either hit the "jackpot" or we lose ("jack shit"). It is double or quits, all or nothing.

Collage of white adhesive fabric repair tape's fragments; black paint markers (1,5-3 mm, 2-7 mm and 3-4 mm tips); white A4 80 g paper.
