Studies for Lostery2014
Studies for Lostery is a 13-drawing series meant to be sanned and assembled so as to build a digital drawing projected onto a screen (a huge abstract machinery). The title condenses two words "Lottery" and "lost". It expresses a rather pessimistic state of mind according to which what has been brought into play leads most of the time to failure.
The projection of the assembling of drawings is in the background of the sound and visual installation Lostery 2. The dense interlocking of the graphical motives evokes the complex gearwheels of a world beyond control and gives the feeling that individuals are trapped in an obscure mechanism which completely randomly deals the cards. Its black and white graphics recalls that the game is binary. We win ("jackpot") or we lose ("jack shit"). It is double or quits, all or nothing.
Collage of white repair adhesive's fragments; black painting markers (1,5-3mm, 2-7mm and 3-4mm tips); white paper 80g A4.
