Bouches béantes 1997

This 12-drawing selection from the series Bouches béantes is accompanied by short elliptic and expressionnistic texts. It is an artistic and cathartic production that could be qualified as Outsider Art since it was realized in a totally intuitive and spontaneous way and with very rudimentary tools, those that were at my disposal (a pencil and lipstick). The colours and the grain incidentally evoke the tints of prehistorical drawings.

It is a cry of pain and rage, against deficiency ("béance" means gap), emptiness and suffering, a kind of mirror which would reflect a truth unknown up to that time, but which opens a question. Is it one single figure reflected in a distorting mirror and which includes its own miniaturized form in some of the corporeal regions, some kind of potential excrescence? Are there two conflictual figures facing each other or one single figure with a dissociation process?

Black grease pencil (B) and red-brownish lipstick; white drawing paper 180g 24x32cm.
